A December Dream Start
Written by Sammy on December 31, 2008 – 7:45 am -On 5th December The Spartans Community Football Academy opened its’ doors to the general public. Since the Academy opened it has been a whirlwind start, with on average over 1000 people of all ages using the new facility, on and off the park, each week. Activities ranging from Christmas parties indoors, to a 4v4 football festival for 20 Teams outdoors, have all been a huge success.
On the park, Teams ranging from Brechin City FC to Standard Life FC have trained at the Academy. In addition to this, the Scotland Under 20 national Rugby Squad and Edinburgh Rugby, have both held numerous training sessions at the Academy. The Academy has enjoyed the honour of hosting former and who knows, perhaps future British Lions.
Guys and Dolls buy Most pleasing of all, has been the number of local young people who have come to play ’street football in a safe place’ each and every day. Since we opened, over a 1000 free users have enjoyed take-ons, playing World Cup, or penalty shoot outs. Our new home, has already become a field of dreams for all.
