A Festival of Fun

The Academy hosted not one but two 4v4 festivals today, one at the U8 age level, the other at the U7 age level, following which the young players were treated to a short ‘skills school’ with Dan Gerrard, pictured left.

One for All, Academy for One
Written by Sammy on May 31, 2009 – 3:57 am -The Academy was delighted to host it’s first ever Bank of Scotland Soccer One Festival in partnership with the SFA on Friday 29/5. Five 1st year secondary school Teams from Wester Hailes, Boroughmuir, Balerno, Leith Academy and Drummond High School all took part. Our hope is that this programme will become a regular and established event at the Academy.

The Bridge to Nowhere movie full
The Academy was delighted to support our local Neighbourhood Action Unit at a recent event held at Muirhouse Millenium Centre. PC Cameron organised a 4v4 football tournament, using the portable street pitch (pictured left).

Sand Banding Begins

Sand banding, a key stage in the drainage system installation works, has started and is on course to be completed this week. We remain on course for hosting games on our new stadium grass pitch in July, with Spartans FC pre-season tournament scheduled to take place on 18/19 July.

Start the Day, with Academy Special K

Our latest community programme – Academy Special K – for mums and toddlers kicked off this week. The new programme will run from 10am-11am each Monday. Sessions are designed to provide mums and toddlers with the chance to enjoy physical activity together in a safe and fun learning environment for both. Each session is followed by teas and coffees in the Community Clubroom.

A Football 'Present' for Past Players
Written by Sammy on May 7, 2009 – 10:25 am -The Academy is delighted to announce the launch of our latest community programme, a new 7 a side league for over 35′s. The new league, which will take place each Wednesday with effect from 10th June onwards, is the latest Academy initiative aimed at encouraging more people to become more active on a regular basis.
The format will consist of 12 Teams competing in 2 x leagues of 6, with the top 3 Teams from each league (after 5 games) progressing into a Champions league; with Teams ranked 4th-6th in each league coming together to compete in a second tier league. Matches will take the format of 35 mins each way, including neutral referees.

Drummond High Drop by
Written by Sammy on May 7, 2009 – 9:53 am -Supercross movie full The Academy hosted 2 x Higher PE classes for Drummond High School (DHS) this week. DHS is the latest school to use our new facility. We hope this week is just the start of another heathy long term relationship.

New Term, New Taster Programmes
Written by Sammy on May 1, 2009 – 4:12 am -This week we kicked-off our latest 4 week football ‘taster’ programmes for another 2 local primary schools, Ferryhill and St Davids. Across both schools, around 60 P3/4 pupils will take part. In the case of Ferryhill, it is hoped that these sessions will provide the launchpad for a new after school club.
