The Quest 2012

The quest is an annual event which takes place each summer for the young people of North Edinburgh. The quest is a treasure hunt where the young people and staff have to explore Edinburgh and it’s surroundings through figuring out clues and a scavenger hunt. The Academy Team had a great day out and finished third in this years event.

FooTEA Challenge Match

On Wednesday a Spartans FooTEA Select XI played a challenge match on the stadium pitch vs. St Paul’s Youth Forum from Easterhouse in Glasgow, who also provide a TACC supported FooTEA club provision each week.

North Edinburgh Alcohol Initiative Event

In partnership with the North Edinburgh Alcohol Initiative group plus other local partners, the Academy hosted an area wide ‘big summer pitch invasion’ event on Friday night, including human table football, a bike assault course and other relevent activities.

Half-time for BILB

Youth Work Games @ Loch Tay

The Academy has entered 2 teams of 5 young people into the Youth Work games (lead by My Adventure) taking place at Loch Tay today and tomorrow.  Participants – who will be camping overnight – will take part in various activities such as swamp-football, mountain biking and canoeing.

SatSun Soccer

Our ‘SatSun Soccer’ coaching programme returns for 8 weeks after the Summer Holidays. Saturday/Sunday 18th and 19th August, with the Little Dribblers 3-4 years from 9am to 10am, Junior Soccer School 5-6 from 10am to 11am,  Senior Soccer School 7-8 and on a Saturday we run a class for 9-10 years from 11am to 12pm . Limited places are available for each day. All aboard for ‘Wakeboarding’

 As part of our summer programme, the Academy took 10 young people to Foxlake on Thursday.  Foxlake is Scotland’s first cable wakeboard park, based in Dunbar, East Lothian.

Supporting ‘Working it Out Project’

Over the course of the next 12 weeks, the Academy will be supporting the delivery of the Tomorrow’s People Trust employability programme for 16-24 year olds entitled ’Working it Out’.  The Academy will provide the project with complimentary weekly let, which will be led and facilitated by Kenny Cameron, our Community Programme Manager.

A SIS Case in Point

SIS recently launched ‘Our Social Impact’, it’s first ever impact report.  The report tells the story of customers SIS have worked with since it was set-up – in total 58 customers were interviewed.  On the back of this consultation and research project, 10 projects have been selected as case studies to show-case the social impact SIS investment has helped to deliver.  The Academy has been chosen as a case study, to find out more please visit the SIS website.

Bend it like Beesley Summer

Our Bend it like Beesley summer programme got off to a great start this morning with over 40 sign ups for week 1. Considering the weather wasn’t the best, the players battled through to the end.
