Working with local schools and other youth work and community agencies, our goal is to ensure as many children as possible can enjoy a chance to be a part of a school holiday club. This enables them to have fun, to make friends and to be emotionally, socially and physically nourished.
We have a burning desire to play a greater part in helping to support local families for whom ‘food poverty’ is a genuine issue and concern.
During the recent school summer holidays, in a partnership project between The Academy, Granton Primary School and Granton Parish Church, we have supported a group of 30 children by delivering a summer holiday camp from 11:30am to 1:00pm each day. The club followed our well established and recognised ‘game of two halves’ model; during the first half children can take part in fun games and activities, before sitting down for the second half to enjoy a complimentary lunch together. The club has been an enormous success.
Going forward, we want to do a lot more. Whether it’s using The Academy facilities and/or working with local partners to deliver clubs in other community spaces, we plan to deliver more school holiday programmes which will support and nourish young people in North Edinburgh.
