Manage internal administration and accounting processes to ensure accuracy, completeness and effectiveness of internal controls and financial records.
Report to the Finance Trustee and the Business and Operations Manager.
Liaise with staff, customers, vendors and our board of trustees.
Salary £20,000 to £24,000 (depending on experience).
The Spartans Community Football Academy is looking for an Assistant Accountant to help manage the finances of the charity and associated limited company. The role is predominantly based at The Academy (94 Pilton Drive, Edinburgh EH5 2HF) but there is some scope for working from home (by agreement) and there is some flexibility around hours. The role includes management of an assistant and may require ad-hoc office management support.
Maintain and periodically review and update all financial administration processes and procedures ensuring that all controls remain effective and are being adhered to as intended.
Review and sign off weekly financial control schedules for receipts, banking, purchase ledger and petty cash.
HRMC returns for VAT and Gift Aid.
Accurate day to day recording and reconciliation of all financial transactions into books of record (this process is largely automated through our accounting system).
Monthly customer invoice generation and distribution. Aged debt analysis and customer follow up on outstanding payments with escalation of issues.
Monthly review and completeness check of customer ‘bookings’ system.
Monthly trial balance for two entities.
Support the production of quarterly management accounts and annual financial statements.
Support the statutory audit of the two entities.
Internal reporting of expenditure against grant funds received.
Work with the Business and Operations Manager to review and develop robust non-financial administration processes to support the day to day operations of the charity.
Ad-hoc support to the Business and Operations Manager, Finance Trustee and the Chief Executive
Proven bookkeeping experience
Excellent working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Word
Knowledge of Sage, Xero or other small business accounting software.
Good attention to detail.
Show initiative and is self-motivated.
Good communication skills and an ability to work as part of a team.

Payroll processing and management.
Experience: 3 years (preferred)
~37.5 hours per week – 7.5 hours per day Monday to Friday but flexible.
