The Academy's volunteers are central to our success and we are so very grateful for all the time, energy and support that each and every one of them give to us. We have a wide range of opportunities for volunteering throughout the organisation including coaching, hospitality, administration and facilities.
We're delighted to introduce you to Claire who has recently started volunteering on our 68 hours project.
My son plays for Spartans Youth Section and I found out about the opportunity to volunteer through them. My own business is photography and during lockdown it wasn’t possible to continue so I was able to volunteer to deliver meals in North Edinburgh. I delivered lunches 1-2 times a week and my daughters helped too. We really enjoyed ourselves and had a lot of fun. It was good to meet and find out about new people and make connections. One of my highlights was seeing how excited some of the children would get when they saw us coming – they'd play a game try to guess what the meals were for the day. I was recently asked by a wee girls what school I went to and that made me smile! Although the delivery of lunches has now finished I’m still volunteering once a week at The Academy where I’m involved in the "68hrs project". This programme delivers meals to families for Friday tea time to Sunday tea time (68 hours). The meals are supplied by Baillie Gifford and they are amazing. I enjoy seeing the regular faces – quite often I’m dropping by as families get back from school and I have one guy who I deliver to every Friday where we’re developed a system of parking up and quickly passing the meals over the fence as it’s a very busy road. It’s such an important project especially now as it’s going to be such a tough time over winter.
"Claire's help has been invaluable and I'm so pleased that she's been able to continue to volunteer with us - her smile and energy are infectious and really give the team a boost."
Volunteers are at the heart of The Spartans Community Football Academy. Their time, commitment and skills ensure that we can operate our facility, deliver our programmes and make a difference to the lives of young people in North Edinburgh.
