The Alternative School
Our Alternative School provides young people who are at risk of exclusion from mainstream education or who may find school a challenge, an alternative place to learn, grow and develop. Students attend the Alternative School three or four times per week. Their development journey includes 1:1 support on subjects including Maths and English in addition to physical activity sessions. There is a focus on self-reflection, personal development and fostering a growth mindset.
Darren is currently a student in the Alternative School and we asked him to share some of his reflections on his time at Spartans:
"It's more chilled than school. 1:1 support means no distractions and we can focus on our work. The teachers always try to help us and the youth workers have a good laugh with us. I've tried some new things like making pancakes, knitting and spray painting. I've learned that I am very intelligent and with 1:1 support I got the confidence to show so. My best memories so far are: having such a laugh cooking pancakes, playing football with the staff and watching Eddie jump off the waterfall. When I leave school I would like I would like to become a Baker at Bayne’s."
"It's been a joy to see Darren progress so far this year - especially his passion for art!"
