"I first came to Spartans 2 years ago when my support worker at Barnardos helped me to find work experience. It was great as I really like football and I had always watched my brother playing. I started helping out with Midweek Messis getting the equipment ready and then I did my coaching badges: "early touches" and child protection. Jack Beesley who used to work at Spartans really helped me and encouraged me to get my badges. Soon I am going to do my "coaching young people" award.

Gaining confidence

I'm really proud that I've done my coaching badges. I never thought that I would have the confidence to do them. I am less nervous, can speak in public more and I'm much more organised than I used to be. I now help out in two after school clubs. One day I'd like to work in the cafe, but I think I'm still a bit shy for that! I think that I'd like to be a football coach. I got introduced to Spartans Connections and now train two times a week with them and play on the team. I've made loads of new friends."

" It's exciting to see how much Kelsey enjoys helping out at Spartans and to see how she has grown more confident and self-assured since she started volunteering here, particularly since she started helping me with after school clubs."

Nichola Sturrock, football development manager.
