Community Coaching
The Spartans Community Football Academy has a range of holiday and term time football coaching programmes for boys and girls aged between 3 and 12 years. We focus on learning new skills and playing football in a friendly, supportive and inclusive environment. As a social enterprise, your custom helps us to deliver our youth work, education and health and wellbeing programmes in the local community.
Diego, our oldest son, started with the academy programme in October 2015, in SatSun soccer on Sundays. He was 3 years old and it's been non stop since then. Lorenzo, our youngest son, joined this October in little dribblers and it looks like it's going to be non stop too! We found out about The Academy through one of our friends who mentioned about the programmes.
I enjoy a lot of things about The Academy but one of the things I enjoy the most is the sense of community, we have made some good friendships. Also, seeing how the boys love to be here and how much fun they have in the sessions; and recently, I love having the opportunity to volunteer as an assistant coach with the Youth Section, which has given another dimension on how you can take part as a parent. Also the work done with the community, in particular during the lockdown shows the great character of this organisation and its people.
Footballistically speaking Diego has improved in many aspects: his love for the game, dribbling, passing, ball control, use of both legs, his understanding of the game; all these things are better and in constant development. But beyond this, it has been absolutely beneficial for his character, personality and social skills. I am looking forward to the same for Lorenzo.
What would you say to others who are thinking of coming along to The Academy?
Don't think twice. This is a great organisation. The programmes are run by a great group of professionals with experience; people with commitment and love for what they're doing, it takes a special character to do this. Just look at the children's expressions after the sessions, that says it all.
If you could sum up your experience of our Community Programmes in three words, what would they be?
Fun, professional, inclusion.
"It's been a real pleasure to coach both not only Diego and Lorenzo but having Luis volunteer as an assistant coach with the Youth Section really does make it a family affair!"
