Strachan Football Personal Development Course

Mohammed

The Strachan Football Development Course runs in partnership with Edinburgh College. It's an excellent opportunity for school leavers aged 16-19 years to build on their passion for football. Learners work towards a National Certificate in Sport and Fitness. Students work on skills, game-play and fitness and gain experience in areas such as coaching, youth work and sports facility management and maintenance.

Mohammed has recently completed the Strachan Football Development Course and we were keen to hear some of his reflections.

"I heard about the course from my Guidance teacher at WHEC (Wester Hailes Education Centre). When I first came along I was excited but also nervous. I was surprised with the drills and fitness - they were a bit hard as I was coming from being in lockdown and I wasn't very fit. I've really improved my fitness during the course and I am really proud of that. The thing that was most challenging was when the course went online because of Covid. It was tricky and I missed the classes at The Academy where everyone was together. I had some friends that I knew doing the course but I've met lots of new people. I will probably stay at college and do another course at a higher level. The Strachan course has helped me do this - it's a good course, I've learnt lots of things and met loads of new people."

"I've been really impressed by Mohammed's commitment to the course. In particular he has really worked on and improved his fitness over the past year. I'm really pleased that he feels ready to do some more courses and the college and think about a career in sport."
